Lylia grew up in Benden Hold, the youngest of four children to a pair of vintners. Her brother Azkin was the third child in the family, and her only sibling at home as she was growing up, with her older sisters living with their own families across the continent. Living around the Hold gave her a deep appreciation for good wine early on, starting at the young age of eleven Turns when Azkin would sneak into her room at night and share a cup with her. She became devoted to him, willing to overlook any of his bad traits. She was fostered for a short time in Lemos, where she first began to make friends her own age. Abruptly, she was yanked back home after her mother's miscarriage. Mostly, her childhood memories are fond ones of running through the rows of grapes in summer, and quiet nights with her brother. As she hit her teens, she fought more with her parents, who had been pressuring her brother into following in their footsteps and becoming a vintner. Azkin was quite ill-tempered, and decided to take off. He was going to slip away when she turned 13, but revealed the plan to Lylia and she followed him. He accepted her as a companion for his trip, but as they headed south Lylia realized her brother's bad habits. He overindulged in wine and was quite the gambler. Shortly after they joined with a trader caravan, he blew all their marks on racing bets and took off. Lylia was a good worker and good with choosing the best wines, so the traders took pity on her and let her remain with them.
At 15 Turns, she had remained with the traders,
becoming a part of their group. Over the years with them, she had become
quiet and shy, completely different from her childhood personality. A good
listener, she thought that she would remain with the caravan forever, but
when they veered up near High Reaches Hold and the High Reaches Weyr she
wandered off and visited the Weyr. Falling in love with the chilly place,
she bumped into a rider who agreed to arrange for her to become a
resident. With goodbyes to her trader friends,
she took her pack and moved into the Weyr. Slowly, a bit shocked by the
new environment, she began to speak up a bit more, lose some of the dignified
manner she clung to at first.
Soon, she had transformed into a regular for hanging around the Living Caverns, a loud young woman with a quirky sense of humor and an even stranger personality. She was content with jobs around the Weyr and staying with her friends and wine, when Chayath laid a clutch on the Hatching Grounds. Soon one of the nannies was accusing her of spilling wine. Her punishment? To stand for the clutch, of course! Lylia was shipped off to the barracks, a horrible journey of moving all the way down the hall. She settled in well, two nannies and one of her favorite weyrbrats being familiar faces. She made quick friends among other candidates, and avoiding certain, frightening ones. The amount of chores took some getting used to, but before she knew it, the eggs were rocking and rolling!
Ushered out onto the hatching grounds, Lylia found herself nearly fainting on the hot sands. Still, the first dragon to hatch, a young brown, caught her eye. A dark little creature, he was certainly different, with fangs bared and eyes whirling. And quickly, the hunter found his way to her, a vampire who decided Lylia had all he needed! So she had found her lifemate, her Druseth. Time went by even faster, each day hard work taking care of the little one, but the most invigorating time she's ever had (Candidacy and Weyrlinghood were so for the player, too!), and she was truly happy. Druseth and her often disagreed, but their bond was a deep one, and Lylia began to slowly take on a slightly more calmed nature. She and Druseth still quarreled over things like wine, but the weyrling held Druseth as everything, the only man in her life.
Graduation to Senior Weyrlings came, and she was given the honor of wingsecond for Riptide Wing, the weyrlings' own group. With Geko and Revnath as the other 'seconds, and Lis and Alymath leading, it was an interesting time. Threadfall came and went, and she began to feel like a true member of the High Reaches dragonriders.
Another promotion, this time to full rider... It was a time of great joy, and soon after Lylia was tapped by T'sin, wingleader of Tsunami wing. She got her pretty badge, and has gone from a more bubbly easy-going type to a slightly sharper, more tempermental young woman. But she's still a generally sweet person, except when you insult ferrets (don't mess with her Endymion!), but over time Druseth's personality rubs off on her more and more. She even lurks. Over time, she became quite a bit more easily irritated, even holding grudges.
Another promotion came to her eventually, a few months before she turned ninteen Turns. This time she was just walking up the stairs, entering the galleries, since Tiareth's clutch was soon to be laid and she needed a rest. But there D'renn and Nuff were, and betting the next person up the stairs would be the new Assistant Weyrlingmaster. So Lylia suffered. She's not entirely thrilled about this position, partly because it means work, and partly because she didn't get it based on merit, but luck. Or unluck. If they gave it to her because they thought she'd do well, she'd at least be happy. Druseth was content with it, intrigued. Still, she lives with it, determined to prove herself, and already bemoaning the evils of weyrlings. Well, a clutch hatched, and Lylia found out firsthand about this new life of hers. She wasn't entirely thrilled, but she liked the power. Especially with the former nanny Pyrene as the new weyrling goldrider, and the weyrbrat Auri in the lot. She could have fun with that. But it didn't stop her from celebrating with drunkeness after the graduated!
Already bemoaning the next clutch and grumblin' about D'renn, Ly's had a chance to broaden her social horizons. Mostly by the way mating flights really let you get closer to people... That didn't stop her little puppy crush on a certain greenrider, of course. But time changes things, and between D'renn weyrmating Lis and R'sli replacing D'renn as weyrlingmaster, Lylia was getting a bit grumpy. After all, she had a new boss to deal with, and her dear friend and crush ended up with D'renn. Horrid, isn't it?
Well, after dealing with more of those silly 'lings, things did go Ly's way. At 23 Turns, at the post-Hatching celebration for Ista's newest clutch, a rather drunken Lylia and Quara decided, what the hell, they were going to shack up. In the tipsy frenzy, the two headed back to the Weyr, and Lylia's found herself a lovely weyrmate. And being Ly, she's fallen in absolute adoration for her bluerider. Who wouldn't? Druseth wasn't entirely happy with a change of scenery, but not having to deal with Ly's snoring in his lakeside abode is always a plus.
Druseth didn't exactly remain the most chaste and single lad himself. The Turns passed of weyrlings and hatchings, and when Lylia was about in her 26th Turn, Cadgwith flew. Not unusual, certainly, but this time, Druseth managed to catch. It was probably a sign of the apocalypse. Indeed, the two dragons laid the most adorable eggs, and Ly got some goldrider-lovin'. The cute, often pink eggs hatched, however, leaving the crowd in disgust and Lylia and Druseth in beaming joy at the "pretty babies!" The spawn turned out to be Creepy Crawlie ones, Oozing Cockroaches and Man-Eating Praying Mantises and such... The parents seemed quite delighted, anyway.
If that weren't enough, some sevendays after the hatching, Chayath rose. Druseth, moping over not having a reason to be at Cadge's beck and call, was prodded into flying by Lylia. And ended up catching. Again. The Pimp of HRW's legacy continues. The weary Lylia just smacked her head on the wall a few times, realizing that once again, she'd be burning on the sands. So Druseth's got a new gold lady to fawn over, even if it *is* his mother. Ly can only hope that all these golds have knocked his romantic intentions for Miravith out of his head.
OOC:
I've had fun with her. She's evolved from a kid
with no real plan, whom I had no clue for, to a drunken 'Caverns dweller,
to a weyrling, to a rider with a purpose. Even if I still have little grasp
of her. :) She's gained friends, love, and a brown best friend. It's more
than I ever expected when I decided I wanted a second character. I've had
far too much fun at HRW, ICly and OOCly, with my Frozen Delights friends,
SearchCo, and all the lovely RP.
Lylia only gets more evil with age.
